Matsu顯然就是標題中所指的武士瞭，這樣一個默默無聞的男人，確又是堅強的化身。小說背景是1937年日軍侵華，香港少年由於父親在日本經商的關係，來到日本一個海邊小鎮養病，然後結識瞭照顧他們在日本海邊房産的Matsu等日本人。在戰爭的陰影下，遠離戰爭紛亂的小鎮中，故事展開。最喜歡的是麻風病村的故事，Matsu和Sachi的互相拯救彼此的那份情。人性的堅強和美好。

剛讀的時候很難進入，不知道是不是因為作者的語言緣故，還是小說本身的日本背景緣故。後來越讀越流暢，三天內就看完瞭。日本侵華戰爭的背景下是普通人的生活節奏和相處。滿滿的日式人生哲學和人情味。

Read this in high school English class. My teacher did not like it very much but I developed a strong connection with the author and the characters. Gail Tsukiyama is a local writer of the San Francisco bay area, she is half Chinese half Japanese. Her writing is typical Asian American.
