很多地方都似乎是先写了脚本，然后再配图的，word-specific作品。这直接导致很多地方的图像更像是插图（有利有弊，好的方面是隐喻的图像多了），而且由于作者技法表现能力有限，人物画得没有区分度（这也是图像和文字的区别，图像在限定内容方面有时候差于文字，但不是所有时候都这样；文字总是有选择的，图像更完整却也更模糊），部分段落讲得不清楚。

因为同样属于亚洲文化，读完以后我看到了很多我们国家历史的影子，以及我家庭经历的很多故事，都有共通的时代背景和文化传统，作为我们这代人最大的幸福，就是再也不会遇到战争了~

去越南前要做点功课，我读了这本图文回忆录《尽力而为》（The Best We Could Do），作者是越南裔美国人Thi Bui，写自己和家人在越战结束后，颠沛流离逃到马来西亚难民营，然后辗转移民美国投靠亲戚，审视自己的身份认同问题以外，还反思战争对父母执拗性格的影响。我读完想起上个月和父母一起采访他们的朋友，一群参加1979年中越战争的老兵。有位老兵说：“永远不要轻易说打仗，战争能让一个国家倒退十年，还应该为受害的人负责余生。” 受害的人何止活在战火中的人呢，即便他们飘洋过海过上新生活，心理阴影也还是会笼罩下一代——《尽力而为》作者的父母就好像是第一次世界大战中的迷惘一代（Lost Generation），这种迷惘感在家庭中不断延伸，作者刻画得很入骨。

Thi Bui was born in Vietnam and immigrated to the United States as a child. She studied art and law and thought about becoming a civil rights lawyer, but became a public school teacher instead. Bui lives in Berkeley, California, with her son, her husband, and her mother. The Best We Could Do is her debut graphic novel.
