哥伦比亚大学毕业生Zak Dychtwald以他在中国生活学习多年的切身经历和细致入微的观察思考，写下了《young China》这本书，描述了他眼里中国九零后的生活状态以及他对中国的思考。“剩女”、“啃老族”、“优衣库事件”、"同志“……Dychtwald触及了很多关于当下中国年轻人的热点、热词，可谓不在庐山内，更识真面目。

Dychtwald的写作很好，他的句子对他们来说有一个整齐流畅的节奏，尽管他从一个话题跳到另一个话题 - 即使在本书的十二个松散捆绑的章节中也是如此。 “中国年轻人”感觉像是一个松散编织的轶事网，其内容丰富且可能代表千禧一代（在一线城市）。 然而，这本书确实缺乏一个全面的故事情节，并没有回答自己对“不安的一代将如何改变他们的国家和世界”的承诺。 尽管有趣而富有洞察力，但其最大的缺陷在于，它并没有超出最近在中国撰写关于他们的朋友的书的西方人的刻板印象（例如永恒的幸福街和愿望灯笼）。 那些对汉学不熟悉的人（中国的研究者）会喜欢学习许多新事物 - 但对于那些与此类似的人来说，年轻中国会感到重复。
