完全不解這部小說是憑藉什麼獲瞭普利策奬的。除瞭零星乍現的幾個高亮點，全書都很無聊，忍著讀完。陳述者一直在說男主人公很天真，雖然已五十歲，但沒有任何章節斷落是描述他如何天真的。最不能容忍的，就是靠一個陳述句刻畫人物，我要的是，描述。我要證據，我不要作者丟給我一個結論。男主人公，行將五十歲，一個沒什麼名氣的三流作傢，被相處瞭很多年的小男友拋棄，被人提到時的標簽永遠是某著名詩人曾經的戀人，在收到前男友的結婚請柬後，決定環遊世界。法國，德國，意大利，摩洛哥，印度，日本。在旅程中，沒什麼事情發生，他的旅程實在是太枯燥乏味瞭。少有關於他情緒的描寫，作者沒有提供給讀者可與之主人公發生情緒共鳴的通道。讀著關於他的故事，卻如同一個旁觀者，看著與自己擦肩而過的路人，你對他一無所知。作者的講述，太糟糕瞭。

作者的文筆真的是我讀過的有限的英語文學裏最能引起共鳴之一瞭故事情節相對輕鬆簡單整個閱讀體驗還是很愉悅的
