Brave and provocative. Learn how to make a strong argument without stretching oneself. Plus the illustrations are so beautiful.
评分写得没有关于伦勃朗的那本轻松，有的学徒工用尽九牛二虎之力的气喘吁吁。跟Panofsy相比，显得有些稚嫩。她好喜欢Vermeer，从几段描写中可以见出。

评分读得有点吃力，确实如作者自己标榜的那样，这是《词与物》在古典知识型框架下的视觉文化考古。克拉里那本《观察者的技术》直接的修正带对象就是本书限定性的观点，不过比起克拉里，Alpers考察的范围更广，而且艺术史的味道多多少少更浓重点
评分最为称道的是两方面论述：1，荷兰的描绘性绘画和英格兰的经验主义科学的关系；2，尼德兰文艺复兴与南部文艺复兴透视法的比较。
