布朗大学经济学Oster教授的新书Cribsheet《大数据育儿》，用数据分析新手爸妈难题：选择奶粉还是母乳，上班还是全职带娃，什么时候开始如厕训练，要不要给小孩玩手机电脑……总括来说，答案是佛系就好(let it go)。当然也有具体指引，比如三岁以下小孩看电子屏幕有损日后学习，每个正常宝宝学说话的进度可以有大半年之差（所以不要过虑），宝宝出生后短期内有家长用产假全职带娃有益，但产假后是否继续全职带娃分别不大，等等。较争议的是作者支持controlled crying (cry it out)来训练几个月大的宝宝入睡，任其哭十分钟，能提高小孩和大人之后的睡眠质量。考虑试行中。

身为布朗大学的经济学教授，两个孩子的妈妈，作者用科学家的视角来研究现代流行的育儿理念是否有数据支撑，并提出做决策时可以使用的框架。大到母乳喂养，早期教育，立规矩，小到打襁褓，维生素补充，几乎涵盖了从宝宝出生到学前所有父母关心的话题。本书最大的特点，也是最宝贵的地方，它并不会告诉你应该怎么做，而是指导你通过科学理性的方式做出最适合自己家庭的选择。

一本声称要通过经济学的决策训练，让人知其然还知其所以然的书。主要方法是收集数据，分析重点，根据自己具体情况进行决策。看的过程中难免浮起一个疑问：难道，除了经济学家妈妈，其他父母不也正是这么做的吗？不过是收集“数据”的方式不同，“数据”的即时性、有效性不同罢了。真正的缺环还是在如何对比甄别抓住重点那一环，具体到这一环，不太能看出这本书与其他育儿书的区别。比如同样讨论睡训，其他睡训书的数据、实验、图表也很多啊，儿科协会育儿百科也在与时俱进地更新啊，我刚好在这个问题上纠结过，作为一个普通妈妈跟她的思路没啥区别啊。给这本书戴上经济学的帽子有点言过其实。总之，这本书对新手父母还是很实用的，相当于N本育儿书的集锦，每个问题还总结了几条the bottom life，但也就是一本集锦了。

Emily Oster is a professor of economics at Brown University and the author of Expecting Better: Why the Conventional Pregnancy Wisdom is Wrong--and What You Really Need to Know. She was a speaker at the 2007 TED conference and her work has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and Esquire. Oster is married to economist Jesse Shapiro and is also the daughter of two economists. She has two children.

孕期13周，把Emily Oster的两本书都读完了。本来想把这一本留到30周这样再读，但是现在也要开始考虑childcare之类的东西，于是就一口气读完了。和她的第一本书相比，这一本实在的数据少了一些，因为本来教育这一块的东西outcome measurement就很难搞，研究结论variation也很大...
