Blood in the Rain is about Jessie. Her life is, in many ways, ordinary - a young girl growing up and reaching for maturity in the Australia of the Great War and the Depression, as she moves from country town to country town and eventually to Adelaide. But Margaret Barbalet's evocative novel follows Jessie's odyssey to self-acceptance with a perception and compassion that reveals a person who is quite extraodinary.
