It is undoubtedly Rod McKuen s most per-
sonal book of poetry. Not only is it his
best work, it is the most autobiograph-
ical-covering the entire range of his
experiences--early childhood, the learn-
ing period of his adolescence, and fi-
nally, the bittersweet maturity that has
made each of his books meaningful to
all of us.
As the author writes in his foreword,
"Every man keeps a prisoner groaning
in his heart This book is an attempt
to free such a prisoner from mine
This is for me a new beginning, or at
least an end."
And to Each Season... is a uniquely
moving, remarkable collection of poems,
that is destined to become Rod McKuen s
greatest success. And, very obviously, it
points toward a new and different kind
of McKuen writing.
