簡潔，平淡，因而顯得有些無味。個彆論斷簡化瞭韋伯，早期吉登斯的英文倒是看著很舒服啊。

偶然看到吉登斯早年寫的這本小冊子，言簡意賅，頗具洞見。作為政治人的韋伯首先是位民族主義者，終生關注“德國模式”。他傾嚮於認為自由民主是強國之路，因此在工具理性的意義上認同自由主義。韋伯對鐵籠式的資本主義抱有悲觀態度，卻不認為保守主義或社會主義能夠打破這鐵籠。在這種悲觀的意義上，他也算個曆史終結論者。韋伯的悲觀也許比福山的樂觀更深刻，但他們可能都忽視瞭資本主義的危機有助於打破鐵籠的。
