The freedom to take part in civic life - whether in the exercise of one's right to vote or congregate and protest - has become increasingly less important to Americans than individual rights and liberties. 一本政治理論著作吧。作為一個Arendtian theorist，作者追溯梳理瞭從托剋維爾黑格爾密爾到韋伯哈貝馬斯阿多諾福柯的public freedom，最終導嚮的是對阿倫特的再闡釋再定位和重新發現。其實還有點小失望的。導論裏把問題frame的很好，我還挺期待他怎樣去看有瞭馬剋思和福柯之後的"公共"以及自由主義傳統，但我並沒有覺得他很好的迴答瞭這個問題，甚至他對馬剋思和福柯的一些理解都是有點問題的。而且，我也沒有看到很多超越闡釋這些學者之外更大的創見。Anyhow，對阿倫特感興趣的話此書還是值得一讀。
