This story starts, taking place on a cattle ranch on the rolling plains of Texas. He had a 31" waist and 6 ft. 2 inches tall, carried a pretty Colt 45 and a pretty gun belt that is why he was called Slim. He loved to punch cattle, cutting some out and making the slow ones keep up by running his horse right into them. Sometimes your horse would actually bump them with their front legs. Boy that would make them jump and run up into the herd. Sometimes a cowboy would ride beside of the steer and hit it with the end of the lasso rope, or give it a good whack with a stick. A good whack would make the steer jump and sometimes they would kick because it would hurt their back. His second enjoyment was strumming his guitar and singing to his nice horse, and herds of cattle, and yodeling softly to them. Some ranchers had dogs that learned to work with the cowboys. They would nip the steers on their heels. Boy, that would make them kick and run. The dogs would drop down on their belly and the steer would kick above them and miss kicking them.
