电影对原著进行的改动很大。原著可以说没有一个特别讨喜的角色，怀疑敏感生疏充斥其间，真实残酷。简练优美的文字描绘出爱尔兰一代移民追逐美国梦时乡愁与新生活交加的沉重与伤感，最妙的是能在字里行间看见自己，原文太美太戳心，我都不准备去看中译版了，什么时候高兴写篇长评对比下原著和电影。

可讀性高，顺滑流畅，為毛腦中全是殺神少女的一顰一笑！到底能不能在电影已经先入为主的情况下，跳出人物场景框架，另建一個王國呢？Hey I don't need to think outside of the box. Coz I don't need the box! ???? need to enhancing Probing skill!

我喜欢电影多过于书是因为,在Tony见到Eilis回来的那一刻升华了Eilis回Brooklyn的举动,而书中可能有些远走是为了逃避的意味. 从书中读到了西方家庭对于另一个家庭的尊重,对于独立的人的尊重以及对于选择的尊重.

科尔姆·托宾是具有国际声誉的爱尔兰当代著名作家，两部长篇小说《黑水灯塔船》、《大师》先后入围布克奖决选名单，最新长篇小说《布鲁克林》也入围2009年度布克奖，并获得2009年科斯塔年度小说奖。

托宾1955年生于爱尔兰东南部一个积极投身爱尔兰独立运动的家庭。他毕业于都柏林大学，主修历史和英文。1975年大学毕业后即赴巴塞罗那，在那里以教授英语为生。1978年回到爱尔兰后，他重回母校攻读硕士学位，但因忙于新闻写作工作而没有完成论文。二十世纪八十年代，托宾曾投身新闻业，担任爱尔兰新闻月刊《麦吉尔》编辑，并游历南美。

自1990年发表处女作小说《南方》以来，托宾已出版六部长篇小说、一部短篇小说集、一部戏剧和多部游记、散文集等非虚构作品，主编《企鹅版爱尔兰小说选》。

托宾的作品主要描写爱尔兰社会、移居他乡者的生活、个人身份与性取向的探索与坚持等。托宾文笔优雅恬淡，内敛含蓄，被誉为“英语文学中的语言大师”。

托宾目前任教于美国普林斯顿大学，在美国、爱尔兰生活。

It is Enniscorthy in the southeast of Ireland in the early 1950s. Eilis Lacey is one among many of her generation who cannot find work at home.
