The Beauty Queen of Leenane was first presented as a Druid Theatre/Royal Court Theatre co-production in January 1996. Set in the mountains of Connemara, County Galway, The Beauty Queen of Leenane tells the darkly comic tale of Maureen Folan, a plain and lonely woman in her early forties, and Mag her manipulative ageing mother whose interference in Maureen's first and potentially last loving relationship sets in motion a train of events that is as gothically funny as it is horrific.

看完剧本才发现Project Rounabout版的舞台剧除了必要的本土化，几乎跟足剧本没多少改动的，也终于让我解开了看剧时的疑惑，原来最后并没有反转再反转，只反转了一次，这样逻辑就理顺了。被困山中的母女控制与反控制，互相折磨的故事，母亲要把女儿困在身边照顾自己，女儿则抓住所有机会要逃离。然而离开了的邻居，则感觉自己不属于任何地方。挺悲哀的两难困境。

评分Life grinds you stir-crazy./The revelation with Pato wasn't convincing enough. Did she turn back in a frenzy knowing he had gone, and club Mag in despair? When did the false memory set in? How could it have been so like his wording? Seemed like a wee bit of cheating there. Maureen was also a bit too flatly vicious throughout, I don't know.
