从语言和思想性上来说，三星，不能再多了。读的是原版，读中文版的人不必责怪翻译，本身语言就是杂志语言。不过是一页接一页的排比，还有时不时跳出来的短语再时不时地重复。对于衰老、死亡，没有更深入的思考来帮助自己和读者能够更加坦然地去面对 (哦对于一些读者而言，可能知道有钱人也免不了生老病死也是一种安慰吧)，而只是沉浸在描绘恐惧、抗拒、失落和自怜之中。但是，如果只从、仅仅从情感的宣泄去看，从这种宣泄给作者带去的安慰来看，写成这本书也是有价值的，但我实在看不出有什么出版的必要，尤其是在读者对于她的女儿的生活也并不好奇的情况下。就像另一个短评所说，亲人的死亡对于她 (和我们每个人) 而言当然是极大的哀痛，但对于他人而言，不过是自然的常态。 PS描绘衰老和死亡的书，中文版封面却用了作者年轻时的美照……

美国女作家、记者。生于1934年，20世纪60年代步入文坛。她在小说、杂文及剧本写作上都卓有建树，在美国当代文学领域有举足轻重的地位。2005年，琼•狄迪恩获美国国家图书奖。2007年，她又获得了美国国家图书基金会为对美国国家文学做出卓越贡献的作家颁发的年度奖章。2013年，美国政府授予琼•狄迪恩美国国家人文奖章。
