前半部分真的讓人心碎。Stella死了好難過，但幸好Ruby和Ivan都有個相對好的結局。感慨裏面說的，人類有很壞的，也有好的，human can sometimes surprise you。作為同樣的人類，我面對醜惡的人性時也經常提醒自己，不是所有人都那麽壞，要有信心，有耐心。要不是這樣，人類早完蛋了，一點點人性之光可以燎原。

看到最后才知道原来Ivan是确实存在的一头银背大猩猩，从被捕猎到被豢养被展示直至被沸腾的民意解救到动物园。Ivan很清楚动物园依旧是一个笼子，但是这是它能有的最好结局了，能有其他被解救的大猩猩一起抱团养老。它真是智慧生物啊。这本书的文字非常好，极富诗意，因为这是一只大猩猩的独白，过四级英文的人就能看了。

It is really a children's book with quick but happy ending though most of the time the world is crueler and more hopeless than it seems to be in books. It reminds me of those disheveled and hairless animals like goats confined in cramped rooms in our old local zoo in the old days. Thinking of that makes me feel sad.

儿童节读物，纽伯瑞的书内核都很一致，表面上是孩子与动物清澈柔软的善良和永恒的希望，底色都是成人世界里无尽的苦难，二者既对立又彼此营养，所以总是催泪又治愈。唯一的bug大概就是Mack有点过于惨了，但是买卖也是罪恶的源头吧...今天看一席里说买一只隼就有十只因此死掉，Ruby和Ivan的siblings也都是在这个过程中死的。

Katherine was inspired to write The One and Only Ivan after reading about the true story of a captive gorilla known as Ivan, the Shopping Mall Gorilla. The real Ivan lived alone in a tiny cage for twenty-seven years at a shopping mall before being moved to Zoo Atlanta after a public outcry. He was a beloved celebrity at the zoo, which houses the nation's largest collection of western lowland gorillas. Ivan was well known for his paintings, which he "signed" with a thumbprint.

Katherine lives in California with her husband and two children.
