这本书被简体中文版的译者毁了。首先自我澄清一下，这本书我还没有看完，准确的说，写下这些文字的时候，刚刚开头。其次我买了Kindle版的简体中文正版、台版（究竟）的纸版，然后有网上的英文电子版（抱歉，盗版）。所以，我想，我无法评价内容，但是对比一下翻译还是靠谱的...

差评不是因为原著而是因为因为翻译太差了。一看就是导师挂名，底下研究生粗制滥造的成品。硬着头皮读下来。翻译的汉语毫无美感完全就是流水账。尽管如此，我对耶路撒冷还是充满向往。耶路撒冷的疯狂，有很大一部分不就是末日审判来临时，葬在圣殿山的首先复活的断言么？犹太人...

我不行瞭到1840年瞭就這樣吧剩的一兩百年下次再說，anyway我主要是想讀三個宗教開宗立派以及十字軍東徵（雖然six days war應該也很有意思????）。作者想講的太多太繁雜，有時候文法就沒那麼講究瞭，不夠優雅，加上調節氣氛的那些黃暴anecdote，整本書整個城市在翻來覆去你來我往的打打殺殺中，失去瞭曆史宏大感。But this is a hard story to tell...and if it’s a biography, I guess the full timeline matters.

有意思的是，一次乘飛機，鄰座的一個以色列大爺一度以為我在讀Montefiore傢族的傳記。聊瞭會纔知道這個傢族在英國勢力強大，非常富有。他們曾經在以色列建國的時候捐瞭一大筆錢，現在以色列依然有很多街道以傢族姓氏命名

耶路撒冷數韆年來的戰火紛爭著實是錯綜復雜兩個月啃下來依然覺得知之甚淺讀完最後一個自然段耶路撒冷的晨間禱告仿佛這座城幾韆年間積攢的聖光與塵埃都飄灑在身邊心裏還有點空落落的要找機會親臨實地自不必多言書也是要多讀幾遍仔細體會的!
