在小说里面看到了好多菲茨杰拉德的影子。当然除了自传的成分之外，里面有他对自己年老的忧虑；一如既往地对上流阶层的批判，迪克作为一个中产阶级的代言人，带读者深入了解到上流社会的浮夸和装腔作势，Dick被利用当做Nicole的监护人，一旦失去了使用价值，就被抛弃。Nicole因病被自己家人抛弃等等，当然还有在欧洲的美国群体的众生相。菲茨杰拉德对对话的使用，使得读者更容易勾勒各个角色的特征，当然我至今对书名还没太理解。
