the first short story collection of Carver,outstanding novelist can not only make novel heartwarming, but also write short story意犹未尽ly. I don't know whether it's Carver's magic writing skills or my interval time on reading this book(one month finished), these stories look like far more than one writer's hand.

I’m afraid that Carver has long been overrated. The authorial voice is sometimes a bit too histrionic. Moreover, his language fails its intended connotations, rendering his works a disappointing quality found in cliched, bittersweet, corny love stories that reflect one’s middle-age crisis.

短篇小说是美国人的发明，但反叛美国梦与抵抗同质性却也是美国人。carver的小说从生活出发，讲述了一个个平淡无奇的故事，但无言的故事远比歇斯底里的宣泄与宣言有力与富有讽刺性。我喜欢这本书和这个作者的原因不是他笔下的人物，美国梦，虚伪与现实，而是对于平凡语言下普通人对复杂社会的理解与真诚的情感表达。the end of the story is not the end of the life 每一篇文章的结局都预言对之前生活的重复。after all, at the end of the day, we all live on and write on.
