Roland Barthes was born in 1915 and studied French literature and the classics at the University of Paris. After teaching French at universities in Romania and Egypt, he joined the Centre National de Recherche Scientifique, where he devoted himself to research in sociology and lexicology. He was a professor at the College de France until his death in 1980. 羅蘭巴特在中國各版本都好少，但接觸文學和藝術史都覺得避不開他。《符號帝國》這本人大出版的封面設計太一言難盡了，拿到書時覺得至少是10年前的版本，反覆確認是2018年第一版的，不可思議。封面的《神奈川沖浪里》非常不清晰，仔細看還有噪點...對比台版的實在是過於寒酸了...

讀瞭寫haiku俳句的部分，哲學傢的感知力、構建思維體係的能力確實很可以，但也確實是orientalism的思維方式，以西方人的思維解讀東方符號，用misinterpretation的方式迴答的是仍然是西方的問題。有瞭這樣的立場後再看這書，隻能從驚嘆於新奇的他者思維，但無法真正迴饋於作為東方文化的語境。
