尼采作为特别不像哲学家的哲学家，在这本札记式的书里提出了很多革命性的见解，当然也包括那些后来被无数人援引得变了味道的名言（当你凝视深渊时，它也在凝视你之类的。）尼采虽然在有些想法上体现了保守性，但如他的译者Kaufmann所说，尼采本身就是矛盾体，这也增加了理解他的难度和阅读他的乐趣。尼采本质上还是人文主义者，虽然提出了很多阶级和人种分层的想法，但我还是喜欢他对磨难的看法：人在磨难中才能发现自己的意志，而高贵这种品格来自于对自己灵魂的尊敬。（看完这本更能理解Wallace Stevens和他之间的联系。）
