And there are people who love these people but can't live through a single day without agony knowing that they can be of little help. Love cannot heal everything, yet people still want to believe in it.

一開始只能在 Jude 身上看到自己。然後他開始變成主角，開始成為這幾個月來每天晚上會擔心的人。最後兩章要鼓起勇氣才能把書拿起，很想永遠讀下去，又不想和 Jude, Williem, Harold, Andy, Malcolm, JB 道別。Yanagihara 的語句淺顯卻感人至深，把有些不常見的心理活動刻劃得無比細膩。雖然總體殘忍，但有些地方未免還是有些理想化了。
