这是一本有关“人的尺度”的建筑理论的历史书。作者在何谓“人性”这么一个困难的前提下，对战后以来建筑界里诸如Perez-Gomez和里科沃特的阐释学和现象学、埃森曼和Lynn等人的示意图、柯布模度，科林罗、维特考尔的比例学说，吉迪翁的人类平衡说，一一进行了解读和批判。作为史学，这本书虽然偏激，确有洞见；可是希望看到未来的人，则会在结尾处失望。hight没有指明方向。注意，cybernetics（控制论）在这里跟人体政治有关，并没有触及当下的虚拟空间。
