這是一本有關“人的尺度”的建築理論的曆史書。作者在何謂“人性”這麼一個睏難的前提下，對戰後以來建築界裏諸如Perez-Gomez和裏科沃特的闡釋學和現象學、埃森曼和Lynn等人的示意圖、柯布模度，科林羅、維特考爾的比例學說，吉迪翁的人類平衡說，一一進行瞭解讀和批判。作為史學，這本書雖然偏激，確有洞見；可是希望看到未來的人，則會在結尾處失望。hight沒有指明方嚮。注意，cybernetics（控製論）在這裏跟人體政治有關，並沒有觸及當下的虛擬空間。
