我一度执着地相信：不参与历史进程是非常可怜的。但历史的潮流永远不以个人意志为转移。每一个人，都是被动地裹挟着去参与。小说正是呈现这样一幅景象：你以为可以投入到无产阶级的文学创作，去发挥个人独特的价值，却不知怎么地被流放西伯利亚；你以为被软禁于大酒店，终其一生，将是无比失意的一件事，却因而塞翁失马，“幸运”地与历史洪流无缘，免受政治的浩劫、免于运动的极端。喜欢小说的结尾，与安娜的再遇，让人重温绅士和公主的过往。
