约翰·C·埃克尔斯爵士（1903—1997），澳大利亚神经生理学家。他因在1953—1955年对突触传递的生物物理特性的研究，发现了神经元之间抑制突触活动的离子机制，确认了由阿兰·霍奇金和安德鲁·赫胥黎提出的细胞膜活动的离子机制假说，与后二者共享了1963年诺贝尔生理学医学奖。埃克尔斯就人脑的演化发展撰有多部著作，除《脑的进化》（1989年）外，还包括《理解大脑》（1973年）、《自我及其大脑》（1977年，与波普尔合著）、《人类之谜》（1979年）、《人的心智》（1980年）以及《自我是怎样控制其大脑的》（1994年）等。
