The latest volume of America at the Polls extends the coverage of this venerable publication through the end of the century. Following its established format, the front section contains summary tables of the state-by-state popular and Electoral College vote for each election from 1920 to 2000. A chapter for each state and the District of Columbia follows. Each chapter includes a summary of the statewide popular and Electoral College vote for all elections from 1920 to 2000, a handy county outline map that will be useful for homework assignments and other reference needs, and the county-by-county details of each election from 1960 to 2000. (Detailed returns for 1920 to 1956 are covered in a separate volume.) A separate section on presidential primaries provides the primary vote totals for all candidates by state and a chronological list of votes for all Democratic and Republican candidates who received at least 10,000 votes nationwide. America at the Polls is a handy compendium of presidential election statistics and is an essential reference source for political researchers at all levels. The small amount of new content added every four years for the hefty price is a concern. Perhaps CQ will begin a third volume, with a proportionately smaller price tag, with the 2004 elections. RBB
