Graham Greene (October 2, 1904 Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire – April 3, 1991 Vevey, Switzerland) was a prolific English novelist, playwright, short story writer and critic whose works explore the ambiguities of modern man in a contemporary setting. Some of his best works, like Brighton Rock and The Power and the Glory, are explicitly Roman Catholic in content and preoccupations. Others he termed "entertainments", although many of them likewise deal with ambivalent moral or political issues which had earned him a worldwide readership and following.

安静的美国人 写的是美国介入越南战争以前越南抗法战争期间的事。百度了一下，原来这场战争法国人伤亡惨重，最后和胡志明妥协的结果是越共从南方撤出，为后面美国介入留下伏笔。只要是战争尤其这种殖民地战争，通常会更惨烈，无辜的平民大量伤亡，而这一切都呈现在一个西方记者眼里。然而战争的残酷在于没有所谓的中立，要么你站在这边，要么你站在那边。标题是美国人 其实只是一个英国记者和一个美国年轻人对一个越南女孩的争夺战。印象里最深的不是这两个人和年轻女孩怎样怎样，而是两人在西贡外围汽车抛锚困在堡垒中那一夜所经历的恐惧，陪同他们的还有两个当地的伪军。
评分First Graham Greene book I read. Life is full of struggles. “Human nature is not black and white but black and grey.” You’d be amazed how love has so many forms and shapes.
评分我感觉如果不是在这样的非常时刻，我可能能更加静下心来阅读这本书。或者如果换个朗读者也能好很多。可能去看一遍电影。
