當時一齣版就買瞭至今還存著。那時從頭到尾通讀一遍，對於這位睿智的星州國父是很拜服的。因為有傢人因緣際會在星州落腳度過大半生，對星州及其領導人有一種不同的情結⋯

對於華人圈、東南亞、甚至後殖民時代來說都是一部珍貴的人類遺産。作為華文世界尤其是大陸的讀者，感觸最深的莫過於所謂僅用一代人的時間將一個第三世界國傢破繭成蝶為一個發達國傢（俺爹瞄見書名時對「First World」的說法存異議）的光輝功績；再來就是第二部分百科全書式的 20 世紀中後期外交風雲，是極罕見的能同時以一個「個人」角色投入到國際政治舞颱的華人；貫穿始終的是做「正確」的事的膽識與魄力。我們早已習慣於那些在政壇人物過世時所冠以的類似於「遠見卓識」之類的修飾，但在比較之下反而會覺得用在李光耀先生身上會色澤不夠，他果真徹底無愧於華人之光的美譽。
