C·赖特·米尔斯，美国著名的批判社会学家。他早年求学于威斯康星大学，广涉社会与政治理论，兼修史学和人类学，25岁获博士学位。50年代初以《白领：美国的中产阶级》一举成名，并任教于哥伦比亚大学社会学系。他在知识社会学和美国社会阶层研究这二个方面都有杰出的成绩，则被视为其主要代表作，他与人合作编译的《韦伯社会学文选》亦被认为是权威译本。米尔斯1962年病逝于纽约，年仅46岁，死后被誉为“当代美国文明最重要的批评家之一”。

其实英文版并没有比中文版好读。只是行文更加流畅，还有思辨批判的力度。书中的许多观点，我都深以为是。然而原本指望此书给一些启发，却是落空了。还是应该从自己的生活出发，找找大地的故事。米尔斯知道得太多，英气逼人，把问题指了出来，但好像无法避免。随便看看书，乐观一下。/almost half a year, ambition and responsibility, totally different from what I thought.
