额就是很传统的小说，充满stereotypes…

Audiobook. 比起前一个更喜欢这篇。又是有点传奇色彩，恐怖氛围渲染地很好。不管“无头骑士”是否存在，这一形象的影响真是深远。主题同前一篇，只不过新旧社会是由人物表现出来。Ichabod作为一个“入侵者”的形象，是外部对恬静的旧社会的入侵并打破秩序。他优点很多可同时精明世故。他最终的逃离代表着原有秩序的胜利，而Ichabod在别处依然功利的行为又一次看出欧文对社会变迁持有的态度。鬼怪的真假与否实在讽刺。

The story was immediately matched by a thrice marvelous adventure of Brom Bones, who made light of the Galloping Hessian as an arrant jockey. He affirmed that on returning one night from the neighboring village of Sing Sing, he had been overtaken by this midnight trooper; that he had offered to race with him for a bowl of punch, and should have won it too, for Daredevil beat the goblin horse all hollow, but just as they came to the church bridge, the Hessian bolted, and vanished in a flash of fire. All these tales, told in that drowsy undertone with which men talk in the dark, the countenances of the listeners only now and then receiving a casual gleam from the glare of a pipe, sank deep in the mind of Ichabod. . . .
