The description of Crane is ironic????He looks exactly like his name: his head like a bird perching on his neck and his hands stretching out 1 mile from his sleeves. The supertitious coward who only cares about wealth, is an emblem of material philistine outside of the village. But I don't think the rustic and ignorant villiage life is to be praised.
