not deeply impressed, maybe because i'm not an American...

對詩歌抱有的敬畏之心，皆天分不足。況且惠特曼不是迷人的詩人，他的熱情高亢和現實關懷，我都不感親近。更重要的，詩歌到底是一點還是一綫，該執著一詞一句，還是綱領，實在睏惑不已。

讀的是1855版，被第一首四十頁長詩驚到瞭（畢竟以前看的中文版都是小短詩）free verse的確像是把prose拆分，加上imagery和無數的parallel (which, though, I deeply love)/ 還是喜歡浪漫主義的，尤其是這種既有廣泛的奇思妙想又有些許現實隱喻的（後續版本政治太多（雖然他自己說詩人不能不有政治上的自由觀念，且經曆完瞭內戰，難免），反倒沒有這麼迷人瞭）/ perface寫得極好（遺憾的是不可避免地manifest destiny瞭），甚至超過瞭作品本身
