采樣至上時代嘻哈製作的詳解，全書是在解構新學派以來，一直到 JD 之前的嘻哈製作，而不是教學。很多老藝人看上去似乎是榆木腦袋，但讀下去纔慢慢感受到很多美學和道德上的概念（黑膠至上和采樣美學雲雲）其實真的是反映瞭那一代嘻哈製作人的真情實感（全書反復采訪的 Mr. Supreme 就是 Sharpshooters 的製作人）。很多內容，比如製作時考量的環境，還有製作美學和道德的細則，都成為瞭後來研究者（比如 3313 係列）的重要參考資料。

Based on ten years of research among hip-hop producers, Making Beats is the first work of scholarship to explore the goals, methods and values of this surprisingly insular community.
