马歇尔·麦克卢汉（Marshall McLuhan，1911-1980）是加拿大文学批评家、传播学家、传播学媒介环境学派一代宗师，被誉为20世纪的“思想家”“先知”“圣人”。以“地球村”“媒介是人的延伸”“媒介即讯息”等论断名震全球。
“麦克卢汉学”已然成为世界范围的显学。随着2011年世界各地麦克卢汉百年诞辰纪念活动的展开，第三次麦克卢汉热已经形成。他的思想跨越国界，跨越学术边界，已经并将继续产生深远的影响。

“媒介即按摩”是戏言。麦克卢汉用诗性的、艺术的语言去描绘媒介对人的强大影响，用夸张的语言刺激读者，使人们注意他那超前的思想。
这种反常的文风适合他反常的研究方法：探索而不做结论，并置而不做分析，铺陈而不做归纳，发现而不做判断，定性而不做定量，形而上而不做实证；偏重马赛克图像，不搞量化描摹。
“媒介即按摩”是真言。媒介改变人，其影响使人麻木，是阈下的、无意识的、不知不觉的。他说：“一切媒介对我们的影响都是完全彻底的。媒介影响的穿透力极强，无所不在，在个人、政治、经济、审美、心理、道德、伦理和社会各个方面都产生影响，我们的一切方面无不被触及、被影响、被改变。媒介即按摩。不了解作为环境的媒介，对任何社会文化变革的了解都是不可能的。”
“媒介即按摩”是警钟。任何媒介既是人的延伸，也是人的“自我截除”。自我截除不容许自我认识；媒介报复人，使人麻木无知。

麦克卢汉是个奇才，20多岁就开始大学授课，多个学位加深，也是各种跨学科和加拿大英国美国的不同文化浸淫让他的研究跳脱整个上世纪六十年代。massage按摩很可能是作者的文字游戏，整本书没有目录标题就是图文（当年最先锋的表达，相当于现在的短视频了吧），但地球村、媒介及器官延伸这些深刻观点跃然纸上，想想要是彩色版就很美了。最诟病的是译者的狗尾续貂，前后都加了大段的不断重复的作者生平，大量文字内容和整本书风格格格不入，而且没有太多信息量，真的是译者的坏毛病
评分在省图一个小时翻完。麦克卢汉语录+意义不明的插图。据说这书是一设计师和一编辑搞出来的，麦克卢汉仅挂名。插图分量比文字重。似乎有点反语言中心主义的后现代意味。但这个图不对文、文不对题的接合实验整体而言可谓相当失败。不过这种全篇引用的“奇书”应该是本雅明的菜……
