This is another writing prescription and the first (cardinal) rule is, quoting Orwell, "break any of these rules sooner than say anything outright barbarous." Scattered with witty, sarcastic remarks, McCloskey accomplished writing another EoS. Those prescriptions are to be learnt first. Aha, I broke three rules! Last, read G. Pullum's words on EoS.

The book is short but clumsy. It's quite interesting that it intends to teach junior economists how to writing cogently, the name of the book itself is rather vague. What is "Economical writing"? Efficient writing or writing in economics? I suggest writers to elements of style and other books. This book deserves half an hour fast skimming.
