This book represents an ambitious attempt to remove the stumbling blocks that stand in the way of a dialogue between Chinese and world philosophy. Hansen's main goal is to present a unified theory of Classical Chinese thought. What makes his attempt very different from innumerable previous efforts is that he uses Daoism, not Confucianism, as the central and unifying principle.

毫無歉意的 western-centric。分析哲學和linguistic turn的路數, 很多想當然。偶爾有些金句--不過在這個看不完書的時代沒必要浪費時間。My take: What we call intuition is usually the acquired skill to process contextual clues and react to them quickly enough to adjust our action to ever-changing circumstances.

评分想替chad hansen说句话。认为本书是western-centric的人或许没有意识到真正的western-centric（即Hansen书中多次提到的主流观点）对中国哲学理解的偏差有多大。实际上，我看到了Hansen教授的sympathy。老子一章的论证十分精彩。 老毛病就是语言方面的问题，言语繁复琐碎，200页能说清的事非得往500页写。用于习惯非常tricky，对以英语为母语的人都不友好，别说中国人了。此外部分章节逻辑论证存在问题，Hansen自己写得也底气不足，所以一眼就能看出来。
