Westfield, New Jersey, is not Westfield, New Jersey. Echo Lake is not Echo Lake. Oakland, California, is not Oakland, California. Boston is not Boston... New York is not New York, Columbia University is not Columbia University, but Paris is Paris. Paris alone is real.

拖著病體一口氣讀完這本，淪為奧斯特腦殘粉。一盤立體的散沙，各種現實與虛構，謊言與真實的交錯。不過網狀的故事偏偏要僞裝齣一個綫性的敘事--一種“褲子都脫瞭你就給我看這個”的感覺。奧斯特的一貫通病。

Paul Auster was born in Newark, New Jersey in the United States in 1947. After attending Columbia University, he lived in France for four years. Since 1974 he has published poems, essays, novels, screenplays and translations. He was the editor of the short story anthology, True Tales of American Life. He lives in Brooklyn, New York.
