从最后的Acknowledgement来看这个故事应当是有原型的。又是关于孤独，受伤，遗忘，原谅等等主题的故事，从没见他一口气写这么多人的心理历程，不仅是以往奥斯特小说中的“一个孤独的男子”，而换成了许多个身在纽约而心却无家可归的孤独的人。文字尚算浅显，但我更喜的还是那些描述电影“黄金时代”，小书“杀死一只知更鸟”，写那些逝去的棒球运动员，还有明明带着色情的意味却不禁让人发笑的段落。这些线索都贯穿始终，首尾相接，相继出现在每个人物的生命里。

保罗·奥斯特（Paul Auster，1947—），生于新泽西州的纽渥克市。在哥伦比亚大学念英文暨比较文学系，并获同校硕士学位。

奥斯特于1990年获美国文学与艺术学院颁发“莫顿·道文·萨伯奖”，1991年以《机缘乐章》获国际笔会福克纳文学奖提名，1993年以《巨兽》获法国麦迪西文学大奖，2006年10月获颁阿斯图里亚斯王子文学奖。作品除了小说《月宫》、《纽约三部曲》、《幻影书》、《神谕之夜》、《密室中的旅行》等，还包括回忆录《孤独及其所创造的》、评论集《饥渴的艺术》及诗集《烟灭》。他的作品已被译成三十多种语言。

在文学创作之外，奥斯特也热衷于电影剧本写作并曾独立执导电影。目前与妻儿定居于纽约布鲁克林区。
