相比於該書上一版Heil(2004)改動不大，作者主要是重寫瞭consciousness一章，加入瞭對g.strawson版本Panpsychism的介紹，而其他地方的改動都隻是簡單的排序和刪減。作者名言：if you can't explain something clearly without recourse to an esoteric vocabulary, you don't really understand it.

本身的內容是很有趣的，但是作者的寫作真是。。。簡單的東西反復囉嗦地在全書各個地方重復，晦澀的理論卻一兩句一帶而過糊裏糊塗。有的內容很具有啓發性，越讀越意識到通過哲學手段去真正理解心靈，那是死路一條。
