In nineteenth-century Vienna, a drama of love, fate, and will is played out amid the intellectual ferment that defined the era. Josef Breuer, one of the founding fathers of psychoanalysis, is at the height of his career. Friedrich Nietzsche, Europe's greatest philosopher, is on the brink of suicidal despair, unable to find a cure for the headaches and other ailments that plague him. When he agrees to treat Nietzsche with his experimental "talking cure," Breuer never expects that he too will find solace in their sessions. Only through facing his own inner demons can the gifted healer begin to help his patient. In When Nietzsche Wept, Irvin Yalom blends fact and fiction, atmosphere and suspense, to unfold an unforgettable story about the redemptive power of friendship.
A remarkable story. My understanding about conscious had been cleansed one more time. chimneysweeping is really an amazing method to remove your own fear and your some weird psychological complex. The last demonstration of Dr. Breuer's hypnosis is brea...
评分A fiction that is so real-life, relatable and powerful. I was drawn into it first for Yalom’s narrative way of psychotherapy and word’s depth, and a few excerpts about duty, then realized one should examine, and live one’s life in his own construct befor...
Solitude is the only way to freedom. Obsessed by the converse between the two sages, I never know the exactly right thing still. Greediness leads to deviation from self. So, keep in mind that "live in right time/die in right time". All kinds of obsession is escape and narcissism, and is a guile for you to believe your life is living.
