When Phillip Swallow and Professor Morris Zapp participate in their universities' Anglo-American exchange scheme, the Fates play a hand, and each academic finds himself enmeshed in the life of his counterpart on the opposite side of the Atlantic. Nobody is immune to the exchange: students, colleagues, even wives are swapped as events spiral out of control. And soon both sun-drenched Euphoric State University and rain-kissed University of Rummidge are a hotbed of intrigue, lawlessness and broken vows...'Not since Lucky Jim has such a funny book about academic life come my way' - "Sunday Times". --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
fun and funny at times, but the neat symmetry maddens me.
评分A genius of comedy. Lodge intermixes the excellence of so many remarkable comedy writers in literary history-the wild extortion of logic and the endless comic extension in Twain, the barbed wittiness, the elegant shrewdness in Wilde, the coherent, the spontaneity of plot in O Henry, and the list goes on forever...He IS born a natural!!!
评分the weakest of David Lodge trilogy, but still funny enough to grip my attention .
评分I rather enjoyed the first half, yet when it came to correspondence and reading, the traces of deliberate-skill-showing-off took place, making the second half itself a satire, catch-22, it seemed. All the changes occurred looks sardonically unrealistic, not to mention the childish settlement in the ending, yet it always works with a triology- -
评分one change changes it all.
