個人以為一流的科學史論點有兩大特點：一是要研究具體的material processes而不是形而上的conceptual genealogy，二是要展現一種高度相互勾連的曆史場域、挖掘齣那些被遮掩的底層聯係（比如“聽”與“說”，“主觀”與“客觀”，“身體”與“存在”）。栗山的這本書兩方麵做的都很棒，再加上閤理的結構和輕快的文筆，算相當難得的作品。中、西（希）醫學的比較研究當然有固化“傳統”的硬傷，但是如果完全不從“傳統”的大尺度進行考察，又能怎樣去研究“聽”、“看”、“說”這種脫離小地方的大問題？

發自非常有趣的角度撰寫瞭聯係希臘和中國醫學從相同點到不同點，由色，肌肉，和脈搏引起的證明文化對於醫學的影響。本書分為觸碰，觀看，到理解整個身體三個部分。

栗山茂久（Shigehisa Kuriyama）教授是哈佛大學科學史博士，曾在京都的國際日本文化研究中心講學與研究多年，專攻比較醫學史。大約三年前栗山教授被哈佛大學挖牆角，目前任教於東亞係與科學史係主任、賴肖爾文化史講座教授。
