该去年上课之前就读的。是简明易读的历史社会学索引性质读物，尤其是不拘泥于某一范式或某一传统的研究，涉猎之广令人发指，要做笔记的话大概可以把全书大部分内容都抄下来。当然，其中少数我知道的研究，在这本书中的呈现还是有些过于简略，意图做社会学和历史学双向传声筒却感觉有点做成了单向。无论如何，能将纷繁复杂甚至不乏奇葩的研究以相对清晰的思路整理下来，这种贡献值得敬佩。

这本书应该能入选我的年度最爱书之一了。其实它内容一点都不深，相当于简略版的社会理论小百科，对于我这种刚入门的新手来说实在是太友好了。读起来也不难，这清晰程度堪比分析哲学了。给的例子也多，每一个小点都有例子，阅读体验可以说是很愉悦了（也不知道为什么某些做社会理论的人就是说不来人话）这本书最有价值的一点不在于它给了多少具体的知识或者细致的论证，而是通过对社会理论方法论、基本概念、重要问题进行介绍，培养新手在社会理论领域的学术品味。也许有些他介绍的领域你不感兴趣，也许有些他介绍的问题你觉得不重要，也许有些他介绍的方法你觉得没道理，这都没关系，重点是读完这本书至少你会初步形成你自己对社会理论的学术品味——这比掌握多少理论、想出多少论证、记得多少实例这些小事情重要多了。
