在Pearl的书中只有这本是“说人话”，用讲故事的形式介绍因果推理中的一些概念，而非满页令人生畏的数学公式推导，此外只要对统计学的知识和历史有所了解，那么书中的内容绝不会让人陌生，作者不仅展示了他过往研究中最为基础的部分，也提及了这些工作的产生过程和许多其他研究者的努力，于是相比他之前数十年的著作，最近才出版的这本书反而成为意图了解因果推理领域的外行人最佳的先导读物，尤其对“相关不等于因果”与各种悖论的解释极尽简明有力，天下无出其右，读此书再去读因果研究的教科书更有情景感，除了Pearl这样执迷直接啃数学天赋异禀的人，他在书中说自己的阅读方法是跳开文字描述直接看数学公式。当然，本书的数学部分太少，读了之后你也不会理解Why的真谛，必须去学因果推理的教材。另外此书重点是因果推理，不是人工智能。
