目前大众对动机心理学的了解还停留在马斯洛的需求层次论，然而最新研究早就否定马斯洛的理论了。目前动机心理学主流理论是自我决定论，在国内知之者甚少。因为这个流派的几位核心创始人不怎么写科普。幸好，近些年他们的学生分别写科普了，有两本佳作被翻译为中文出版。一本是 Success，作者是哥伦比亚大学动机心理学中心主任 Heidi Grant Halvorson，书名虽然很成功学，却是一本难得佳作。这本书第一次将自我决定论与执行意图结合予以描述。作者同时师从 Mindset 理论提出者德威克与执行意图理论提出者格尔维茨。中文书名译为《成功，动机与目标》
