看完就理解为什么毛姆是三流作家了。情节一点都不引人入胜，就是把俗套桥段拼一下，用流水账的方式毫无起伏地叙述一下。最讨厌的一点是第一人称叙述的第三人称视角，显得特别自以为是，以至于所有角色都显得很做作。作为大溪地的旅游营销倒还不错。
评分Strickland如果不是靠Blanche的护理早就病死了，不是靠Ata养也不会在最后几年过得那么惬意继而达成艺术理想了。很震撼于这种为艺术献身和拉他人牺牲的人性。
评分读过一本毛姆的短篇小说集，一个非常擅长说故事的作家。但是这本长篇前半部分还是读的非常艰难（一半因为几百年没读英文书了，另一边因为都是在飞行时间看的，非常容易睡着）。但是Strickland从法国到大溪地之后确实不忍心放下来，借伍尔芙说的，确实像在自己平庸的生活中迎面撞上了一座巨大的冰山。毛姆的确聪明、幽默又克制，赞美毛姆。
评分看过中文，再看英文，竟然还是断断续续看了三个月
