比起全球史，這本書主要解決的問題還是the rise of capitalism吧，依然是在邏輯上多有不順的消費社會的形成問題/人類學方法很有意思，例如各種講究用途、實踐之類/後麵英文版實在讀不下去就翻中文版瞭????

a marvelous account of the material life and the spirit behind it.eventually some truth does lie in the surface of things itself.every move is for some certain reason yet it's tricky who justify the reason in what way.

重讀之後的評價差瞭很多。必須承認在物質文化研究上這本書有極大的方法論價值，至少作為範本把物引入瞭人類學的主體領域。然而作為單一研究，野心太大，社會史的細節材料梳失頗多，行文中經常提齣一兩個很重要的見解卻沒有論據作證。工人階級這樣被關注的對象仍然是被“噤聲”和“代言”的。

He is the author of Worker in the Cane, Caribbean Transformations, and Tasting Food, Tasting Freedom: Excursions into Eating, Culture, and the Past, co-author of The People of Puerto Rico, and editor of Slavery, Colonialism and Racism.
