如果把Percy和proust对于repetition/reencounter with the past的态度放在一起看的话，实在是很有趣。20世纪初，Proust再一次尝到medalin花瓣浸入到茶水中的味道，这样的reoccurring sensory experience让他感受到真实与永恒：如果这么多年过去了，我还能品尝到一模一样的味道，那么所组成我的某一部分肯定在这个过程中是不变的，是永恒的。20世纪50年代，Percy再一次看到20年前的一张防晒霜广告图片，他却告诉自己：如果什么都没有改变，这20年一定什么都没有发生。repitition让他感到历史的虚无与飘渺。如果搞战争心理学，这两本书或许可以作对照文本来读。
