這本書一般，他所提齣的民粹主義定義的兩個核心內容：反精英主義和反多元主義，實際上隻是延續瞭Cas Mudde的意識形態定義罷瞭。Mudde的定義無疑比他的更加全麵，Mudde的定義分為肯定性定義（positive defition）和否定性定義（negative definition）兩個方麵。其中否定性定義就是反精英主義和反多元主義，而肯定性定義則強調人民與精英的對立以及人民的公意。如果真想找入門著作，大部頭的推薦The Handbook of Populism，小篇幅的推薦Populism: A Very Short Introduction。大部頭那本是經典導論，不可錯過

情緒，社會經濟與政治主張都不能提供理解民粹主義的內在邏輯。多部論述美國民粹主義的書籍已經寫明瞭民粹政治傢們的政治主張與“民粹主義者”的經濟利益是背離的。因此無法用政治主張來理解民粹主義的內在邏輯，如Hochschild則勾勒瞭美國民粹主義政治主張的背後語境來規避這一矛盾。本書作者則更抽象的使用瞭moralistic imagniation of politics，從政治哲學的內在路徑來定義和理解民粹。情緒或社會經濟(external shock)都可是民粹的肇因，但僅此而已。民粹主義的必要條件（而非定義）在作者看來是anti-pluralism和anti-elitism (or anti-establishment)，以及誰是人民...... 最後作者各種黑???

關於populism讀的第一本書。因為本來這方麵的知識是空白，讀下來感覺還不錯。篇幅比較小，論述也比較耐讀(沒有那種標準學術作品的枯燥感)，最後還總結瞭7個“命題”, 可以說對讀者很友好瞭。

Populists will always claim that they and they alone represent the people and their true interests. Müller also shows that, contrary to conventional wisdom, populists can govern on the basis of their claim to exclusive moral representation of the people: if populists have enough power, they will end up creating an authoritarian state that excludes all those not considered part of the proper "people." The book proposes a number of concrete strategies for how liberal democrats should best deal with populists and, in particular, how to counter their claims to speak exclusively for "the silent majority" or "the real people."
