第一個故事用第二人稱視角，充滿細節的敘述起到攝影機的作用，從客觀角度描繪戰爭中的城市。第二個故事沒認真讀。第三個故事圍繞一對決心為祖國而戰的兄弟，分彆走上戰場時，恐懼侵蝕內心，理想幻滅，命喪沙場，纔知死亡輕如鴻毛。托爾斯泰根據親身經曆而寫，可以看齣《戰爭與和平》中的一些主題。
